My Journey To Becoming a Horsewomen


I know I will hit a lot of roadblocks on the way to becoming a horsewomen. But I choose to go to the top & be the very best that I can be.

I know there will be no problems along my the way; only new solutions to find & that I need to think about where I want to go, and who I want to be; think about all the baby steps on the way & every day- work on those.

What a Weekend!



Friday night was the first night this week I didn't work back late. So I raced home- & got out to the paddock as quick as I could. The guys were all the in back paddock, so i went out said hello and Archie & I started to walk up to the front paddock & into the play ground at liberty. Diablo & Syd followed- as usual. But as a nice distance. Diablo use to try and drive Archie from behind, but respect is starting to show up in all different places from him.

I just want to mention something that happened when we all got into the top of the front paddock- I was so happy I almost cried! I'd just walked them all into the paddock, when something coming down the road behind them spooked all three of them. Diablo took over- started to drive the other two down the paddock. He and Syd took off at a full gallop- tails up and RB. Archie jumped, head went up took about 6 leaps sideways turned and faced me and looked for direction. I started to draw him towards me and he lowered his head and came straight to me- when the rest of his herd was galloping flat out in the other direction!

We had a great session on Friday. Just played with the online patterns. I haven't felt like its really been together till now. I know this horse is so much more advanced than me, and that so much of what needs to be worked on is me. So I upped the anti and asserted more direction & leadership; and WOW! everything came together! What s surprise...!



Yesterday I worked in the morning but spent the whole arvo out with Archie. We when so quickly through the online patterns we've been working on- and with so much obedience that I got off then quickly- I don't want to bored him, if he's got it, he's got it MOVE ON! I need to work on my position in the figure 8 though I think, I'm too close- I think I'm blocking him a bit & he feels he can't get to go around the other Tyre without being squeezed by me.

We then played with some of the freestyle patterns. I was so happy with how we went! I really worked on being a leader for him up there, & I'm feeling more & more confident every minute I'm up on him- such a great feeling! He was mentally with me the whole time, which is HUGE!

I'm only riding him bareback at the moment. I have my Natural Performer saddle, but I want to wait to use it all the time. I want to get my balance great, & I know the best way for ME to become a fluid rider is to break my old pony club day habits and get really in tune with my horse without relying on the saddle for balance. It will also stop me from doing anything I'm not ready for in the saddle.
